mid April
I go out to
shovel

Yes we had snow overnight. Only around 4 inches. Short of the predictions that said we could get up to 9. Glad we didn't. Our snow totals up on the ridge are around 310 inches so far this winter. We keep getting fake springs and then winter returns.

Spring must be near. The snow mound by my driveway and the road is only about 5 feet tall now. I am still waiting for the ice on the driveway to all melt. I hope our crocus are having pleasant dreams beneat the snow covering the backyard.

3 accepted by Failed Haiku a few days ago. Will be submitting more work as the week goes on to other magazines. And if I can get it into shape a poetry manuscript will go out. Other than that we have cleaned out the 15+ inches of snow from Sunday/Monday and are ready for next weekends storm.

I deleted my rant. Now back to life. Today we have a grocery pickup in Houghton, then up to check out prices at the grocery in Louie's. Leona has her ATC group. I might go down to Black Ice and do some writing. We will both be cleaning at some point. Family coming in later in the week.

No school again. Some haiku from yesterday's blizzard.

blizzard
neighbors’ houses
appear disappear

blizzard
hugging a rice bag
i try to dispel the cold

blizzard
dog walks to the edge of the porch
pees and turns back

blizzard
breathe in breathe out
the sound of wind

Here is something from a few years back. A Sad Song - a blues poem that Mark Hartenbach reorganized into a song. Here is Mark singing it on youtube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ilbd...

I wonder if they have any of those old iron lungs in storage somewhere? Or maybe Musty will design new ones to sell to the government and hospitals.

Roadkill
Ravens and eagles
Arguing
Over who
Goes first

Hope all is well for everyone. Sun is out today and you might need sunglasses.

Here is another poem involving ravens and food. Common here on trash day.

Blue sky
Big debate over
Who’s garbage bags
To open first
Raven voices

Here is a short poem (or tanka) that would require too many footnotes to explain. So for those who know - enjoy.

in the window
shiva nataraja dances
the heikki lunta
and snow falls
gently

Other than that and the daily deluge of sludge from DC, my car broke down again. Two weeks in a row.

Blizzard warning: 11 am until 1 am. Wonder if they will have an early release. My car is in the shop so a co-worker is picking me up early. I saw a haiku prompt for 'thin ice'. Not really a concern here for a while.

Thin ice warnings
Drunk snowmobilers stare
At the hole in the ice

In prepping for Trump's inflationary tariffs I stocked up on tomato products (most come from Canada or Mexico) and other staples from outside the country. Also bought any electronics we might need before the end of January. Supporting ACLU efforts as well as local food banks.

Woke up at 4am. Probably the prednisone. Took Bella out around 6.

overnight snow
fresh bunny tracks
the day is beautiful
and then i read
the news

Leona is walking up to church and I am watching mass from the UK ( a church I have watched services from since Covid)
They have sun on grass.

I think it already is.

But seriously. Don’t call them names. We want the door open for them when they realize the mistake they made.

We are for a better America. Not a vindictive America
Hey Mark do you think voters remorse will ever hit the magat crowd

Crappy day. Snow and more snow. I'm still having knee pain nearly 6 weeks after surgery. Not unexpected, but it's annoying anyway. And then then the news.
January 26, 2025 at 1:10 AM
Cold here. Poor pup doing the "my paws are freezing" dance when I took her out.

so cold
even the ravens
are quiet

I think they are all nestle deep in the pines branches where it is warmer.
