To be honest I didn't think about a comment system still making sense or not. When I migrated towards #Wordpress 20 years ago comments were a feature, and when moving to #gohugo it was a nice technical challenge to migrate also the comments 😆

Of course you can run your own server. But you might not need to, at least not for Cactus/Matrix. My setup works fine just using matrix.cactus.chat
