Since it bowed out of circulation a few years ago, Francis Kurkdjian's Absolue Pour Le Soir has been high on many people's lists of the perfumes they'd most like to see back in circulation. Well, I think it's safe to conclude that sometimes wishes do come true, because it has just been re-released, and I was delighted to be able to review it in a recent episode of…

Another Ask Me Anything broadcast from yours truly, in which we talked about Frederic Malle, disappointing blind buys, the BBC's Perfume documentary, my personal Top 10 and much more.
Ask Me Anything To Mark 600 Episodes Of Love At First Scent
The other day I reached episode 600 of my Love At First Scent series, but as I didn't want to devote any portion of that instalment to anything other than interviewing Patricia De Nicolai, I thought I'd use episode 601 as an opportunity step back and mark the milestone. Cue: an Ask Me Anything session. As ever, the range of topics that I was prompted to cover was wide, from my thoughts on the current state of the Frederic Malle brand, to my connection with the BBC's 2010…

Love At First Scent has reached episode 600! To mark the occasion: a very special interview with none other than Patricia De Nicolai.
For The 600th Episode Of Love At First Scent – A Live Interview With Patricia De Nicolai
For the 600th episode of my Love At First Scent series, I was joined in the virtual studio by a very special guest: Patricia De Nicolai, founder of her eponymous brand, member of the Guerlain family, recipient of France's Chevalier De La Legion D'Honneur award, former president of the Osmotheque, and creator of some truly beloved perfumes, including New York…

An interview with Jovoy's Francois Henin in which he discusses the house's re-brand, the problems caused by counterfeit bottles and the creation of the new Ha Long Bay. He also reveals which Jovoy perfume he believes to be the very best... and it's not the new one.
Jovoy’s Francois Henin On Changing His Brand’s Look & Making The New Perfume, Ha Long Bay
- We are under stress. We have many players selling stock. They are discounting. We don’t know where they got the product from. It could be on social networks, it could be on Snapchat. We don’t know if they are original. And this is stressing the traditional players like us who are paying rent, training staff, doing things by the book.

Spray & Tell – Scented Perfume Chat With Alice Du Parcq
In the first instalment of what will hopefully turn out to be a regular series, I was joined by Alice Du Parcq for a bit of Spray & Tell -- a completely unplanned perfume discussion, guided by nothing more than the wandering of our minds and some questions from the live audience. In this edition, we talked about our favourite releases of the year, the new 100th anniversary flanker of Guerlain…

Balenciaga are back... but should we be excited? Or maybe we ought to save our excitement for Nissaba and Homework. PLUS -- Do Prada know what the word paradigm actually means?

Now, that number has increased to at least five, with houses releasing six or seven scents in one fell swoop. Under the ownership of Kering, Balenciaga have upped the ante even more, offering a re-launch portfolio that includes no fewer than ten compositions, including a new version of…

Chanel have given us yet another flanker of Bleu which they have rather confusingly called L'Exclusif. Here's my review of it.
Chanel Bleu L’Exclusif review – Olivier Polge; 2025
- Regular readers will know that I’m not what you’d call the world’s biggest fan of Bleu. I remain an admirer of Chanel. I believe they continue to give us interesting and worthwhile olfactory creations. I am filled with gratitude for the fact that they maintain the quality of No. 5, No. 19, Cuir De Russie, …

How would you have marked the 100th anniversary of Shalimar? Guerlain have released a limited edition flanker called L'Essence. Here are my thoughts on it.
Guerlain Shalimar L’Essence review – Delphine Jelk; 2025
- How do you mark the 100th anniversary of the release of one of the most important perfumes of all time? If you’re at Guerlain, then the answer would appear to be the somewhat predictable: put out a limited edition flanker. There’s nothing intrinsically wrong with that. Goodness know, countless other brands have marked key occasions in a similar way. What matters is how you do the flanking.

In the first instalment of my Before & After series, I examine the development of Quentin Bisch by focussing on Etat Libre D'Orange La Fin Du Monde and Marc-Antoine Barrois Aldebaran.
Before & After – Quentin Bisch – La Fin Du Monde & Aldebaran
- I first became aware of Quentin Bisch not by smelling one of his works but by seeing him on my TV screen. In the second episode of Ian Denyer’s Perfume documentary series for the BBC, even though the spotlight was mostly on the likes of Jean-Claude Ellena, Jean Guichard and Christopher Brosius, it was Bisch who stayed in viewers’ minds.

My Top 10 'modern retro' perfumes -- scents that give us a knowing wink to the past. Also -- a review of the new Guerlain Vetiver Fauve, which is turning out to be surprisingly controversial.
Top 10 Modern Retro Perfumes + Guerlain Vetivert Fauve review (Delphine Jelk; 2025)
I suspect Guerlain didn't think that a vetiver composition would turn out to be polarising, but this is exactly what seems to be happening with Vetiver Fauve, their latest addition to L'Art & La Matiere. I featured it in a recent episode of Love At First Scent, together with a video in which I presented my list of the Top 10 best 'modern retro' perfumes: scents that nod to the past in a knowing, ironic way.
