Apparently we have VERY varied tastes in our reading material. #booksky

My dog believes that if she puts her butt down and looks at the pool - totally ignoring me - I might forget to finish her bath and blow dry. (Every other day for two weeks to treat a skin condition is a long, long time for both of us.)

For the first time in a long time, I don’t have a lot to do this weekend. Just one paper to write for School Law, and it’s easy - 2,000 words on 2 different situations. I am almost excited to think of all the cooking and reading and organizing I can do this weekend.

Reading the pardon coverage...I don't think the significance of the Gaetz/Patel/Bondi nominations has sunk in. People still aren't getting what a politicized DOJ and FBI, with the power to arrest/bug/harass anyone for any reason, would be able to do.

In other, non exciting news - I bought several Christmas gifts, opened a Roth IRA, moved some money around, and planned for this week’s lessons. What I did NOT do was write the two papers due on Dec 6.

My 8th grade students don’t read for enjoyment so I read for the last five of class. We finished our first book (Long Way Down) and I let them vote for the second. One class chose The Outsiders, one chose Black Brother.

Feels like I'm just posting to the void since I'm just getting started here, but why not. I write a weekly newsletter, and this week I write about how far away from reading and critical thinking we’ve come. It's lacking in our education, COVID learning loss, social media attention spans, all of it.
We need to get back to reading and critical thinking
Because 2024 feels different from 2016.

Never thought *anything* was too dark for The Master.
Stephen King, master of the horror novel, just quit Twitter because it'd become too "dark."

That's how horrifying Twitter is right now.

There may never be a more perfect expression of this fact.

This is why reading is important. 50% of USians read so poorly that they are unable to perform simple tasks such as reading prescription drug labels. At least 45 million are functionally illiterate; 130 million more can't finish a children's book.

When you turn 55, you can buy your own cake, give it to your husband, and tell him to give it to you. Everyone wins this way.

Trying to come up with yet another bio, another profile pic, a new set of folks to follow. How many social media platforms is this now?
