Also the crazy system with winner takes it all in the Presidential election, so the votes of maybe half of the population don't count AT ALL. And a candidate may lose the election even if she wins the popular vote.

And most of us have some sort of parliamentarism, another safeguard. AND we have more than two parties.
(I know US have more than two, but only GOP and Dem's actually count)

No. Not yet. But if we do, there are more safeguards in our systems, usually both president/king and prime minister, so all the power isn't in one pair of hands. I've never heard of other Western democracies where the president rules by executive orders.

Aren't the FBI supposed to go after The Enemy Within? How can they arrest people for federal thought crimes if they don't have tthe manpower?
