The Trump administration isn't only targeting organizations or groups but even individuals and "entities" whom NSPM-7 says can be identified by any of the following "indica" (indicators) of violence: • anti-Americanism, • anti-capitalism, • anti-Christianity, • support for the overthrow of the United States Government, • extremism on migration, • extremism on race, • extremism on gender • hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on family, • hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on religion, and • hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on morality.

Amazing! In my hometown Oslo, Norway, three out of four travel on foot (til fots), using a bike (sykkel) or by using public #transport (kollektiv). In other parts of the county using a car (bil) is much more common.

Another question from that Fox News poll helps explain an important dynamic undergirding support for Trump. Respondents were asked whether they viewed Trump’s escaping serious harm from assassination attempts this summer as an indicator of divine intervention. Most Americans said it wasn’t — but 6 in 10 Republicans said it was.

So the majority of the US Supreme Court has finally realized that #Trump is destroying American democracy.

We can always hope they will keep this up, but I have my doubts.

There is a way for universities to fight back. It requires more than refusing to bend to Trump’s will, and it requires more than forming a united front. They must abandon all the concerns — rankings, donors, campus amenities — that preoccupy and distract them, and focus on their core mission: the production and dissemination of knowledge. Intellectuals have adopted this strategy to fight against autocrats in other countries. It works.

An overview over which American universities Trump is trying to bully into submission, aiming to replace democratic and open science and humanism with MAGA conformity.

Which schools have been targeted? So far, seven universities have been singled out for punitive funding cuts or have been explicitly notified that their funding is in serious jeopardy. They are: Brown University, which the Trump administration said stood to lose $510 million. Columbia, which is hoping to regain about $400 million in canceled grants and contracts after it bowed to a list of demands from the federal government. Cornell University, the target of a cut of at least $1 billion. Harvard University, which has approximately $9 billion at stake. The government has sent the university a list of demands. Northwestern, which Trump administration officials said would be stripped of $790 million. The University of Pennsylvania, which saw $175 million in federal funding suspended because of its approach to a transgender athlete’s participation in 2022. Princeton University, which said “dozens” of grants had been suspended. The White House indicated that $210 million was at risk.
