For news publishers, there's a lot to take out of this recent report by Kristy Hess, Angela Ross et al, looking at public broadcasters' partnerships with other media around the world...

File this under friggin' cool.

I recently wrote a story about an analogue photographer who had produced a book about car culture. During our interview, he shot a pic of me on his old twin-lens Mamiya C330. He just sent me the developed image.

Thank you Ethan Klemm!

Are Google's AI overviews stifling traffic to news publications?

I checked my own stats.

Interestingly, while search traffic to #MurrayBridgeNews (green) had a dip in June, it wasn't unprecedented.

Does this tell us hyperlocal news may be more resilient, or do small sample sizes mean nothing?

An excellent outcome for @lina.org.au is in the works, by the sounds - the Dept of Various Things Including Comms has indicated it's working on a funding extension. Sensible & much needed decision.

Even on a week off work you can't keep me out of the media spotlight. 😆 #IlluminateAdelaide

Still no drought declaration, but this is what it looks like in regional SA whenever the wind gets up.

I know there are shocking floods out east, but here it's the driest it has been in at least a generation.

Excited to announce the finalists in our inaugural business awards tomorrow!

They have proven wildly popular - we had more than 1000 people submit nominations.

Good, basic run-down of the pros and cons of six common revenue streams for media companies from @dbenk.bsky.social here, for anyone looking at starting or scaling up.

Just finished hosting an election forum for 7/10 candidates for Barker in Murray Bridge, SA. Strong turnout of 50-60 in the audience, even in a super safe seat. People care about whether the political system is working for them! #ausvotes

Results of the ballot draw for Barker at the 2025 federal election. Tony Pasin, the Liberal MP with a 16.6% margin, draws top spot.

...laughing myself silly at a debate about AI, learning that there are still 13,000 journalists working in Australia (!), getting amazing inspiration about sales & media kits from Kenny Katzgrau, planning future collaborations with Jim Plouffe & having fantastic chats with too many people to list.

This year, that has meant trying on Jodie Hopperton's smart glasses, witnessing Simon Crerar's desperation to win bingo, talking tech opportunities over a beer with Liam Fitzgerald (or hockey with Emma Marshall), expressing solidarity with @annasaulwick.bsky.social...

It's always my favourite week of the year, and 2025 has been no exception.

@lina.org.au's annual summit is an insane few days of learning about the future, sharing ideas, making new friends and catching up with old ones.

Interesting update from the @newsrevenuehub.bsky.social in the US: they're launching a collective advertising network for independent news publishers. Great idea.

Paying subscribers to @mattbrown.bsky.social's newsletter, Extra Points, get access to a simulator game: "an edutainment product for sports students", as @fzierer.bsky.social puts it.

That's a cool perk.

Interesting idea from @taprootedmonton.ca - they start every staff meeting with a proper wellbeing check, not just a "how is everyone today?"

Mental health is important y'all.

Is it just me, or has Meta Business Suite removed its bulk invite tool in the past month or so?

You used to be able to send a page like invite to all users who'd interacted recently. Now it's back to the olden days of clicking on post likes and clicking "invite" 100 times.
