On Earth, I masquerade as a finance lawyer originally from a freeloading random country (🇬🇧) but living in 🇮🇹. History, current affairs, cinema, cricket, law and finance.
If the BBC “can’t cope with dissenting views”, would Melanie Phillips care to explain why they keep on inviting her to appear on Question Time and on Radio 4’s Moral Maze?

If the Beeb had any balls, they’d fight back and I suspect the majority of 🇬🇧 ppl would support it against a foreign despot and the Vichy-style patriots in this country whose only wish is to wipe it off the face of the Earth.

No organisation will survive if it can’t or won’t tell it’s enemies to f*ck off.

🇨🇦 is by no means the only country where the Right is degenerating into Vichy-style patriotism.

Never had any illusions that Brexit would be enough for Brexiters. They were always going to move on to something more disagreeable.

No posturing, no performative hyperbole, no crackdown-on-crime crap, no soundbites and no sign of scapegoating. Resign!

Interesting that they cite Bromley LBC v. GLC from 1981. It was a controversial judgment but don’t recall any Tories moaning about it at the time.

Oh. So we have a case of Vichy-style patriotism.

Re the first post: what’s that 🇺🇸 flag doing next to “Britain today”? Can someone explain to him that we’re not part of 🇺🇸 (thank God).

I gathered that.

She’s right. The rules-based international order was created in the context of totalitarianism and mass murder and in the current climate, we need it now more than ever.

A mate of mine was at a tube station when they announced on the PA System that Thatcher had resigned. Everyone clapped vigorously.

I’m sure he’s right. 🇵🇰 and 🇰🇵 are capable of maintaining a nuclear arsenal but not backward countries like 🇺🇦.

Joined a support group on Facebook of 🇬🇧 citizens in 🇮🇹 sharing info on what we needed to do post-Brexit + how to apply for 🇮🇹 citizenship. It was comforting, civilised + useful.

Or maybe they should ask them if it’s patriotic to parrot every piece of propaganda put out by Russian bots?

At least we now know whose side they’re on.

Claim #68 (coming out of Erasmus): are they seriously suggesting that’s a benefit? As for the Turing scheme, I respectfully suggest that in 10 years’ time (tops), it will have disappeared without trace.

Claim #32 (Financial Transactions Tax) is false, so there is no “benefit” that requires analysis. The FTT was optional and the UK did not opt in when it was in the EU. In fact, at present, 17 of the EU27 are non-participating member states as far as the FTT is concerned.

“….down to the size before Brexit”. So they admit that Brexit increased the size of the civil service. 👍
