A vivid, dynamic and richly detailed vision of life, William Roberts’ 'Self-service,' was painted in 1978,  towards the end of his career, during which he had achieved international renown and critical acclaim for the distinctive figurative style of his post-war work.

Mackerel Sky, Eric Ravilious, 1938. Painted at Tollesbury in #Essex. Thought lost, it is now known to be in a private collection, was exhibited for the first time in many years in 2021 and is currently on display at the Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne.

'View of New York.' (1928) Bernard Boutet de Monvel was one of the great society portrait artists of the 20thC spending prolonged periods in America - he also lent his very distinctive approach to capturing cityscapes of the boroughs of New York.

'The Singer in Pink.' (1895) Like his close friend Edgar Degas, Jean-Louis Forain drew extensively from the world of entertainment, finding intriguing subjects amongst the spectators at the operas, concerts, and lively sporting events which took place around Paris in the last years of the 19thC.
