The part about ”they don’t want anything handed to them”. They want everything handed to them!

Things change, and demanding that everything must stay the same or someone failed ME is wrong, dangerous and impossible in the long run.

Is there evidence of penguins??

Got it. In my country they would be forbidden from meddling in specific rulings. Agency employees are governed by laws and can be fired for not complying with the law, but not for not complying with the rogue agency heads.

I guess this turns out to be a pretty good protection that the US lacks.

Yea, I get it. They are an important part of the checks and balances and they have all collectively surrendered in a way that must have been truly incomprehensible to the founding fathers. Back then principles mattered.

Thats the weird part for me. I’m used to a system where laws are in more direct control.

If the laws says one thing and our prime minister another. In many cases the laws would be more directly applied with repercussions for anyone ”winging it” by doing a rogue prime minister’s bidding.

Agree. Its just fascinating that the US was hailed as a great example of a system with division of power built into it.

A success story of sorts and then it crumbles this easily.

But I guess the other thing they thought holds even more true: no system works unless the participants defend it.

No need to get patronizing. The issue is that where I live the laws control the police and the ”violence”. It makes zero difference what the prime minister thinks about that unless he or she manages to change the law by passing it in parliament.

Until then, agencies are ruled by the law…
April 17, 2025 at 10:24 PM
Did it? I only read something about laws being subjective, but in cases like this I’v always found the law to be very clear cut with very little uncertainty in my country.

I just cant see the case where something this important would suddenly be unclear.
April 17, 2025 at 10:19 PM
So the problem is the that the President appoints heads of government agencies that doesn’t care about the law and there is no enforcement mechanism by which they loose their jobs for doing so?

I can’t believe we were taught in school that the US had a functioning system for division of power…

Sorry, I don’t buy any of the replies so far. If I’m tax exempt and my country’s equivalent of the IRS would deny this, I would challenge it in court and win.

Judges in my country cannot be fired by politicians and no one in this process cares what our prime minister thinks.
April 17, 2025 at 5:33 PM
Can someone please explain this for us Europeans. Aren’t there laws regulating things like this? And if the IRS suddenly stop complying with the law why is that not super easy to challenge in court?

I genuinely don’t get it.

Almost as if madness was the cause, not the effect

This is a great website idea. Put in where you live and how old you are and get to know (statistically) it you’re dead or alive depending on how far back in time you want to backtrack on our progress.

Wow, impressive! That calorie count though. You must be light as a feather…

Yea, but their sales guy didn’t wear a suit to the meeting so…

Everyone who cares about what messages they are spreading or standing by. So should be everyone.

I suspect a large part of why the VC market works so badly is that a lot of people do this. I’v yet to meet a VC who actually audits any of the bold claims I’v made.

There are so many bullshitters in startupworld and I’m sure they are getting vast amounts of funding.

Thats 5 % of the world’s population you’re thinking of, the rest of us will watch in horror and hopefully learn something.

Sadly thats about the only angle in which it looks good.
