We nailed all three regular breeding British woodpecker species at Middleton Lakes RSPB this morning. Here’s a mega scarce male Lesser Spotted Woodpecker drumming away. You can just about hear another in the background. 🪶 #ukbirding #peakybirders #peakypeckers #woodpecker #phonescoping #warksbirding

I certainly wasn't expecting an entire flock of Cirl Buntings at St Aldhelm's Head this morning! At least 8, incl'g 3 males, were feeding along a sheltered hedgeline, with a handful of Yellowhammer. This may well be the largest flock recorded in Purbeck since the sp went extinct in the last century.

Ham Wall yesterday afternoon for the Starling murmuration. They didn't throw many shapes but watching them stream into the reed beds in ever increasing flocks never fails to amaze. RSPB are estimating that there are 300,000 at the moment, hard to tell but it felt like more to us. #SomersetBirding
