really enjoyed watching the original Pet Sematary, a movie with every age range, and so beautifully camp!

learning to do the head is such an abstract experience.
even when following along to a tutorial video.
i kinda still don’t know why some of these elements really work (i botched the instructions) but there it is, almost done, looking like an actual person.

tricky to get little intricate colors of a matchstick.
more reps! i can feel my eye muscles growing.
painting illuminates so much of the world.

I have found my calling, oil painting!
The process of mixing colors feels like partaking in some kind of ancient, zen magic.

This was my first attempt at a master study whose result (and how intensely it made me feel) pretty much showed me what type of art I wanted to get really good at.

The phenomenon of working on some master study, thinking you're way off, leaving, and coming back only to see a way better output than you initially perceived will never not blow my mind.

the ear is quite forgiving when it comes to painting it as a learner. the very visible variations in color make the invisible lines pop out without trying.

getting values right is feeling like trying to get the ingredients of an ancient & obscure potion just right.
also starting to realize that the higher the pixel value of the document, the less interesting values i get from the brushes (for some reason--on Krita at least)

learning to paint with color has spooked me so greatly that i’ve been putting off all exercises.
And have felt the task impossible at times.
Alas it is probably best that I work within the confines of a more forgiving range of colors—for one so fresh to painting.

after spending so much time with pencil and ink, and feeling like I've been circling the drain, studying color has felt like a shot shrooms directly into the veins.

There’s something therapeutic, bordering on euphoric, about capturing what you see as accurately as you can.
it makes one feel less like a messy, useless human being.

just doin these drills every day, from Bridgman to anything that's kind to the student's unsteady hand and uncertain eyes.

Slowly one finds oneself getting fatigued with the drills, and in that malaise, modifying what they're studying.

In no time I'll be on to the next stage of my progress.

a strange thing happens with me where i only see clearly (the energy and form the original image possessed) AFTER drawing it, and sometimes only after multiple takes. #bridgman #drawing

weirdly more confident and accurate with a regular HB pencil than the mechanical pencil.
