The last summer flower, somewhat unexpectedly, is a monkshood that was planted in early summer and flowered much later than expected. Tall, languid, voluptuous and staggeringly poisonous. I love this! Hopefully it will gradually expand into a sizeable clump.

Underneath, a seedling Japanese maple (Acer palmatum) is showing proper autumn colour for the first time and looks quite promising.

Autumn in the garden. The pond vegetation is settling into tousled senescence, but behind it the giant Veronica vies with a self-seeded hazel for brightest autumn colour.

...and in any case a flagrant copyright violation. This is an earlier version, part of the Gilgamesh epic in Akkadian, but even this isn't the oldest; the original is Sumerian. "Noah" is called Utnapishtim (or Atrahasis, or Ziusudra, depending on the text) and lives in the city of Shuruppak.

Out in the forest picking mushrooms today. Great success: porcini, hedgehog fungus, yellow chanterelles, funnel chanterelles…but now I have to clean them all.
