also sadako was more tied into the tradition of how onryo work where it's sort of a dark stain left on the world or a metaphor for the perpetuation of violence and samara is just an evil child who wants to kill people so honestly she had it coming

and it just ruins the effect like i look at it and i'm like oh this was made to be scary not this is something from another world

i think my problems can be summed up in the actual tape that kills you when i saw the original i was like if i saw that out of nowhere i would be terrified like it seems like a cursed video the remake is like what if we took that and added a bunch of bugs and gore and shit to make it creepier

i really wanted to give this a chance because i do have a bias against american remakes but if a movies good that should still be acknowledged and i feel like they were really trying with this one i just don't liiiike it

and paint it greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen as hell like your looking through a goddamn vermouth bottle wachowskis got nothing on me motherfuckers

a couple things but mainly suicide club the main character is a detective who's looking into a series of apparent suicides and he goes home to his perfect wife and two kids and it's like oh boy i think i know where this is going

it's pulse (2001) i put the year to differentiate it from the american remake. good movie pretty dang scary if a bit more slow and atmospheric which is pretty common in j-horror
