My girlfriend grew up in car centric OC. My anti car rants never resonated with her until we went on vacation in Spain. Her favorite cities/neighborhoods were the ones that old pedestrianized areas that were devoid of cars (i.e Sevilla's Casco Viejo, Gothic Quarter) Much quieter she said...
