Was not forced, no. My mom had a Parker that I remember coveting as a child, to the point that by middle school she had gotten me one of the disposable Pilot ones, with turquoise ink. I loved that thing and used it to death. Didn't get back into pens again til my early 30s, though.

The resident 12-year-old and I just started singing this at each other, and now she's considering it for next time her orchestra class does karaoke. Well played.
