ecce consequentiae factorum.

Rust aficionado. Functional programming advocate. Final Fantasy collector. Vim fanboi. Oxford comma proponent. Armchair etymologist and reluctant descriptivist. Opinions my own.

No shilling. Cat photos will be liked.
- Liquid Glass is the worst UX change since Jony favored folding iPhones over battery life.
- Apple Music is proof that the company today could never make the sort of products that made it successful.
- Do I even have to mention the $150-200 iPhone Sock?

...in case I seemed like a blind apologist 🤔

Apple has fallen far, but there's still a pecking order, and Zuckerbook is still farther down.

Is it worth gauging relative evil at this level? Perhaps not. But that's where my metrics leave it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But at no point did I think, "I wish I'd teased my friend at Facebook a little less and got a job working for the most spineless tech bro ever to be successful enough to appear before Congress, throw elections, AND cheat our boomer parents out of their money."

There were definitely hits and misses while I was there.

Pushing back against the FBI's demand to unlock phones was a qualified win IMO.

"Gifting" that U2 album was just absurd.

The M1 line was pretty nice tbh.

Tim Apple simping for Trump was the final straw, of course.

But... that's THREE colors!

The use of AI should be noted clearly on the cover, cover page, or ToC so readers can choose another book by an author who still writes.

I think I'm better prepared for this one!

(I'd almost completely forgotten I ever had such a mnemonic, but I did, many thousands of years ago...)

I had never heard of shredded wheat for cardinal directions!

Growing up we were taught about soggy waffles. Rhymes a bit less perhaps...

Interesting... I agree, it's definitely not likely to be proxy-friendly for anything less than CONNECT, but might also vary by service?

I'm old enough to miss things like procmail recipes and usenet killfiles. What I wouldn't give to send anything anything reality, sports, or soap-related straight to /dev/null.

But even something as simple as allowing me to hide individual "For You" categories would be a 100x improvement.

They don't care what you want.

Of the 12 tvOS apps polled, none displayed the user's watchlist on the landing page.

2 of the 12 placed the user's watchlist within 1 menu slot of the landing page. Most buried it 3-4+ entries away.

Paramount was the worst offender, at 7 slots away, followed by Peacock at 5.

Again, I don't share Steve's views on this (Sorry, @steveklabnik.com), but I'd rather have his voice in the debate than either knee-jerk reactionaries or blind VC-fed automatons.

So my request was, alas, purely selfish, and carries no moral weight at all.
November 27, 2025 at 7:23 PM
But I've read and heard Steve in so many articles and podcasts fighting to keep the debate practical, and I chose to say to him what I tell myself when my snark reflex is activated.
November 27, 2025 at 7:23 PM
AFAIC no, he (Steve) absolutely doesn't "need to" be better. He already _is_ better than me and most people in this debate, and his reply to me was more considered than expected.

To be honest, my original reply was akin to "It's good to know the pro-AI arguments are as unprincipled as the cons."
