When I was a young woman in the Twin Cities in the early 90’s a Mexican man told me that Border Control used to bring a bus to restaurants, lift all the Mexicans, drive them to the border and kick them out. They’d make their way back. He kept important papers in a safe deposit box in a bank.

It would have been interesting for the article to explore that. There are agricultural colleges in Scotland, I don’t know if there is a union of farm workers. £40K plus accommodation is a professional wage. What is the situation in other parts of Scotland?

I don’t see why they need to be skilled, either. Why not offer apprenticeships?
