My Hanukkah reflection today:

Hope is not optimism. Optimism is the capitalist meritocratic sister of hope - urging us to believe with daily affirmations, ritual visualisation, hungry expectations. As if, if we just believe enough and work hard enough on our optimism this will be rewarded!
