I had time enough for a quick tour of this beautiful garden at Assiniboine Park. I’ll come back one day to see #TheLeaf

And here is the Great War soldiers’ Monument. 🫡
Can you see the Golden Boy atop the Leg in the distance?
And of course, the Canada geese needed to cross the road to the other side.

I always wondered, why such wars? These two rival companies had been fighting for control for so long. Peter had written in his diaries of the dastardly tactics they used.
But in the end, the 2 merged, and sadly, Peter passed away at (original) Fort Dauphin, MB, in 1822, a retired Clark, forgotten.

This #Assomption sash was owned and worn by Jean-Baptiste Lagimodiere (1778-1855) grandfather of #LouisRiel 👨🏻 #ManitobaMuseum

I found a map drawn by my GGGG grandfather (he surveyed for the #HBC)
It is a Deposition of Peter Fidler taken at Red River 4th August 1817. It shows #CuthbertGrant and the NW Co’s route they took to Seven Oaks, June 19th, 1816. They roughed up Peter and his son at Brandon House. #PemmicanWars N🔃S

So on to the history of the #HudsonsBayCompany #HBC
The #Nonsuch in 1668 started it all and there is a giant replica and small model.

A women’s amauti, is the parka worn by Inuit women-such a clever garment! Wow the decoration for this! Some children’s wear and a capote with sash.

This chair was made with Buffalo (bison) horns. But the real reason for their deaths was more than just for furniture or leather for industry….
It’s worse. 😠

This day was a visit to #ManitobaMuseum 🦬
Just a few pictures of bison and a map about how close they were to being wiped out. 🙁
