Don’t get me wrong I think it’s beautiful to celebrate, it’s just one of those things that remind me I’m a foreigner

Possible but these things feel more routine elsewhere. I don’t remember similar euphoria when Tvärbanan opened in Stockholm or when our train stock was changed

Contrast this with Paris: greener, less polluted, great infrastructure, more welcoming to visitors and this year we saw swimming in the Seine. Britain can't even keeps its beaches clean from sewage.

These smaller workshops are so good for that, when you know each others work but don’t frequent the same conferences

it's so bad. but it also seems to really illustrate that the people well-suited to climb to the tops of existing systems aren't the ones who are best-suited to recognize the need for and conceive of new ones.

The ideal of major revision is: this paper is not yet worthy of publication, but with a revision it would be.
What many major revisions actually are: this paper is publishable, but I would prefer it to be different, so I'll demand they do that.
