Woke cat. Well, the picture is my cat. The political viewpoint is mine. The cat’s position is right of centre judging by her behaviour.
After a boozy night as a Bristolian student in the early 90s, my inebriated friend paid the taxi fare when we got home by writing a cheque in pencil. I don’t recall there being any negative repercussions.

Before ATMs were widespread, to get money you’d have to physically go into your bank and write a cheque payable to ‘CASH’, for enough until you need to do it again.

Your hand-wringing advance apology elevates it. Well played.

Am about 10 years into a weighty biography of a (the most) prominent figure from WW2 by historian Ian Kershaw. It’s on my phone and tend to only read it when I fly. I’m about halfway through now and it really is excellent.

My first African steak in the Lusaka Club, Zambia (not as posh as it sounds but by god an intro to a properly hung bit of beef).

Jellyfish in Hong Kong. Stitched up by my Cantonese colleagues. Tasted exactly as you’d think. A carrier bag with the flavour of the sea.

Also I fear untrue. I went on a second date to watch Nil By Mouth. It was in hindsight, a bit dark. Our first date was to watch Natural Born Killers.

Obviously untrue: the absolute worst film to take someone on a date to, a former colleague once assured me with a shudder, is Deliverance.

I got Simon Groom’s autograph at the turning on of Mousehole’s Christmas lights in 1984. *on the back of my mum’s video rental membership card.
