I've added the ability to 'Reset' the Pencil Clicker game. The next big one will be saving/loading progress - if I remember right, that's going to be much trickier.

Shucks - my 'multiplier' for the pencil sharpener factory didn't work. I created a multiplier, and never updated the code for it to do anything. Now it works! (whoops)

In an app I'm working on, I kept getting the same supabase authentication error. Cursor kept refactoring and said 'ok, should be good now' but it wasn't. Again and again. Finally I ended up asking ChatGPT "what should i tell cursor to get it out of this rut?". It gave me some steps that worked!

I wanted my little gears to look like they were randomly placed rather than in a straight line. I used CSS to target the 'odd' one (`span:nth-child(odd) {position: relative;top: -3px;}`) and every 4th one (`span:nth-child(4n) { position: relative; top: 3px;}`). The combo of the two works for me.

I was looking up pencil quotes. "A pencil and a dream can take you anywhere." seems to be the best one, although I sometimes see it as "A #2 pencil..." which is gives off different imagery that early education is part of that fuel.

I'm trying something to create traffic - a vanity play. Whoever comes across my site will see the option to stick a sentence in the middle of the play area for a month. Chances are nobody will ever take me up on it. But if someone does, maybe they'll encourage others to check out the site.

According to 'Simple Analytics', pencilclicker.com went from 0 visits per day to about 50 per day. Mostly direct. How are they finding the site? No clue. How long are they staying? No clue. I'd like to know if they find the game fun or have feedback. No emails, bluesky mentions, so no clue.

For anyone who has ChatGPT Atlas with agent mode - navigate over to pencilclicker.com and see if it can play the game. I'd love to hear how it goes.

My game is unplayable on phones - it's meant to be desktop screens and mouse. If anyone knows of "needs a desktop and mouse" warning screen examples, please let me know, as I need to introduce something like that on pencilclicker.com.

Not to get ahead of myself, but while I have a prototype of a game up, I think it's good to consider analytics. I've dropped Simple Analytics on the site ( @simpleanalytics.bsky.social ) and am trying to figure out their events tracking. Currently testing an inline events tracking (in beta).
