I love all my unmemorable Thanksgivings. As a vegetarian who doesn't like to cook or watch football, it’s always untraditional. But early on my dad would carve the turkey. I would look at his face,not hands, knife, meat- and see gratitude. This traditional memory may be the only one I really need.

My dad’s first sailing lesson, 1964. Why was he so high on the mast during this first lesson? He was an engineer so maybe he wanted to see up close how everything worked? Maybe an idea of improvement? I only know that when things are rough I want to be bold and rise to new challenges like my dad.
