Did you hear a whistle in the wetland?This mysterious marsh bird is known more for its call than its sightings. Part of the rail family, Soras feed on beetles, crayfish, snails, and spiders and are adept at hiding in dense vegetation as they distribute their weight over their thin, long feet.

Another busy rescue day! Live rescues included a Dark-Eyed Junco, Red-breasted Nuthatch, and a Tennessee warbler. Salvages included Ovenbirds, Black-throated green warbler, and a Blackpoll Warbler. Keep calling CBCM if you find something - 773 988 1867

Rescued a Red-breasted Nuthatch that started to feel better! Will need to double bag this buddy for transport to Wildlife Rehabilitation for a check up.

Last Friday I found a bird I haven’t seen in the wild yet! This female Belted Kingfisher was downtown across from a manmade waterfall. These majestic fliers reside in Chicago all year round. #birdcollision #kingfisher

Saturday was a wild opening of the fall bird collision monitor season. After a light rain, the sun emerged over the clouds, and BOOM we had a mass of collisions on the north east corner of buildings. Over 70 dead and 20 rescues for our entire downtown team. I am mainly found Tennessee Warblers.
