Not an expert, but i do know theyre rlly pretty and the largest bees in the world! Theyre also completely harmless to humans because they dont have stingers <3 Theyre rlly silly and fly around in these drunken patterns which means you do have to dodge them, I see them often around Blue Trumpet Vines

A really pretty kit, and fun to play with. I will say the jacket rlly does limit her movement tho, and its a hassle to swap pieces out, so I'll probably leave her sitting there. Now I also have a bunch of leftover torsos and thighs that arent compatible with other kits which is a shame :')

Okay um thats about it ig i know i missed out a lot of things and i do wanna write more (heck i think this is probably good for like... half a masters maybe. Oguri is very trans as @halimede.bsky.social has said.) But yeah hope you enjoyed my insane posting and now i will explode
Ultimately, I think this story is possible because Uma Musume, even if on accident, has created a sort of post-gender utopia where both male and female horses have been transformed into a single-gender species, where stallions and mares are able to run alongside each other without the same discriminations placed upon them by our real society. (Well, mostly. Through playing the game I have learnt the lore is still biased against the triple tiara and stuff and Bloomfie also skeeted about this but like, I think fandom aside the point still like 90% stands for the official story since they’re all so yuripilled so) Like I’m sure some part of it comes from the fact that since so many characters are based on irl stallions and these horse owners love their male horses and want them to have agency even when represented as cute waifus, they get some of that good writing in there, but, even so! (oh my god I’m turning into Banagher) Uma Musume thus stands as a Harawayan cyborg – though born from an industry which has the worst parts of capitalism and patriarchy through gambling and eugenics, the series seems to want to distance itself from those two, clearly eliminating betting and breeding as explicit elements in the franchise. And even as it contains elements from a shittier world, it shows us a potential way forward to keep writing stories about women that have the power to revolutionise a whole industry! It’s supposedly a “shounen/seinen” series about sports! Which are typically full of guys, while girls can only do romance or “Cute Girls do Cute Things!” But now, especially with the BNE movie and CG serving us with “Gritty Derby,” the sky’s the limit! Truly the door is flung open for a yaouri future! And I (tired but still putting on the insane Tachyon lab coat) want to see it! To surpass the limits of yuri!!! P.S. Even as much as the format of a race, of a competition may limit the collaborative yuri potential here, I want to believe in what not Char Aznable Symboli Rudolf says at the end of the JC too, that “there were no real losers in this race at all!” given they all smashed a record together and ran their hearts out. Idk this might be cope but also y’know nothings perfect. (Okay now that I’ve gone completely insane I hope you enjoyed this way too long write up uh I still want to talk about transgender Oguri monster in the future but also my brain is just bowling pins rn thanks to everyone I’ve cited or haven’t cited here I’ll try to tag as many of you as possible any mistakes are my own message me if you think I’ve missed things which I probably have or just wanna gush about yuri go watch more horsegirls if you haven’t kk bye)

Folkqueen, trapped under a gaze that is patriarchal, that reduces women/mares to nothing but objects without agency, is finally freed from that mirror by racing with Oguri! In a place where gender no longer matters, she is free to define herself against an equal! Another umamusume! This too is yuri!
The power that overcomes this flattening, that enables Folkqueen to free herself, is none other than yuri. (Of course, why else would I be writing about this otherwise?) As Folkqueen runs, the mirror shatters, as she desperately attempts to break through this barrier, to make a declaration of her self-identity. But what finally breaks through the final clouds of doubt that cling to her, that slices through the crowd’s roar, is Oguri finally calling out to her, shouting “Folkqueen!!!” in a big bold text box that asserts itself across the double spread. And as she turns to look at Oguri, covered in sweat and turf and dust, she finally sees herself, reflected not in a cold dead mirror, but in the warm living eye of an other; another umamusume just like her, striving, as an equal, to run her damned heart out in this race, to run for no other reason than because she can. As the end chapter text says, “At last, someone saw me.” It is the power of this mutual, reciprocal relationship, to finally see and be seen, to be “Folkqueen,” to be “me,” that is so damn liberatory for women! Oguri yelling "Folkqueen!" the large bold text bubble cutting through pages and pages of darkness and doubt, the black gutters and inked shadows on the right finally fiving way to a burst of bright light as Oguri spurts from behind and recognises Folkqueen for the first time The two, equally split amongst vertical panels, Oguri's monstrous smile staring straight ahead while Folkqueen thinks "At last, someone saw me" The power of having an Other, a rival, to define herself against is what allows “Folkqueen” to truly come into being. Unlike previously, it is no longer the case where comparative identity is thrust upon her, or being lost within herself with multiple identities. Now, she can see another umamusume as an equal, as someone who is supposed to be “the same,” “just like me” in their racing careers with fame thrust upon them (chp 127). And it is against this well-defined Other, not some vague ideal held on a pedestal high above her, that she can push back against, to define herself in relation to. As she says, “if you’re the ‘ideal I should have become,’ then you’re exactly who I’ve come here to reject! . . . To prove who “I” am!” (chp 128). I know I’m rambling at this point and I could really have used an editor but I need to get this point across to people!! To cut to the chase, as a trans woman with an identity crisis, it’s really aspirational to see a character suffer through something similar, be able to brush against other women, firmly grasp on to what one is by understanding what one is not, and then be able to declare “here ‘I’ am!” It is the elusive “I” that generations of women in literature have been striving for, the apparitional self, long buried under patriarchy, that forces herself to be seen at last and it’s beautiful to see this in Uma Musume manga of all places. (See Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own, I’m also going off half-remembered uni classes at this point I wish I still had jstor but also I don’t have energy to do this much research too sorry please google stuff like dialectics, Lacan’s mirror stage, or Irigaray’s further work on Lacan if you’re really a huge nerd like me. Or just pm me idk.) Yuri will save you! Not because you’re dependent on the other half of the relationship to save you, but simply because it provides one with a real mirror against which one can develop and grow! It’s like Anthy and Utena! Fuck im scared to ramble oof
