Really great few days along Lake Superior between Houghton and Ontonagon, with lots of walking this shoreline. Another highlight was the winter wren calling much of the time we were inside our rented home.

The marsh marigolds are putting on their annual show right now in the forested wetlands of the Wisconsin Northwoods. This was a patch along the Wood Lake Segment of the Ice Age Trail on Sunday.

It’s a privately-owned, easement-protected forest that is open to the public and managed to promote old growth characteristics along the Ice Age Trail.

It was a good morning for a walk to this lovely new development going in nearby. I wish we could have more of this (or greater) density sprinkled around our mostly detached single family home neighborhood. It’s helps address climate change, the affordable housing crisis, and neighborhood monotony.
