Many actual impediments exist. On-street parking slows buses and vehicles. Need many more dedicated bus lanes (at min during morning and evening rush hours). Vehicles making left-turns slow down all traffic. UPS et al have designed routes with min left turns for 2 decades now b/c more efficient

A push for hybrids would have been a more efficient usage of battery materials. Not require such costly charging infrastructure, and also resulted in drops in emissions (cox, nox, particles)

It’s been many decades that we have had research groups which largely exist to put out large numbers of articles for the collective international journals of suboptimal science. Anyone shocked that AI is now replacing some of the underpaid, overworked foreign grad students?

Not to excuse such behaviour, but in those cases we should look at the disease rather than just the symptoms. Those various platforms pay delivery persons/drivers very poorly. The only means for them to make even min wage requires that they deliver ungodly numbers of packages etc at ridiculous pace

Increased numbers of Bump outs at junctions could be one such space. They help with traffic calming. They also prevent drivers from breaking traffic laws if they can’t recall the legal distance from a stop sign from they can park.

I imagine this is for longer trips. Daily commutes exceeding 150km each way must be a fairly small number of people. IIRC the EV a mandate requires a minimum of 80km of C-free autonomy, thus PHEVs would be a viable option for such users.

This current administration exists in a moment with imbalanced age demographics and low birth rates; an aging society. Being so against immigration would seem to make population decline a near certainty. Perhaps Americans are fine with that. Not convinced it would be bad for rest of world.

Any of what is being pursued has possibility to reduce population. A USA with a population of well under 200M could be good for the world.
