That proboscis reminds me of one of the best examples of Darwinian evolution. Darwin observed the Madagascar star orchid with a nectar spur some 70cm long. He hypothesized that there had to be a pollinator with a proboscis at least that long. A sphinx moth was discovered that fit the bill.
