All living things. Sanity is a garden to be tended. Facts always. Kindness. It’s bigger than us.
Techno determinism will finish us. We will stand or fall on our ability to separate, democratically, what we should do from what we could do.

It’s unworkable. Will not be implemented.

He can’t imagine it because he is dumb and should never have children.

Indeed is terrifying how easily we are being lead to this by AI slop. That graph would take 10 minutes to produce by hand (early high school maths). The data centre diagram has no quantitative information & could be drawn on a white board by a couple of moderately informed people.

Shingles on the face at 30. Pain like an acid burn. Narrowly avoided blindness. Permanent scarring. Weeks off work. FFS get the vaccine!

Rory’s conservativism is, he says, about tradition, landscape, fiscal responsibility….But “Tradition “ in Britain unavoidably means Class structures. His progressive views do not transcend his sense of Class, so he reverts to reactonary defensiveness and whataboutary when pressured.

Legacy media no longer inhabits the world as it is. Assumes there is always a middle line in the face of overwhelming evidence that division is being actively manufactured.

Would any Biologist anywhere support “net gain”? It’s BS.
November 24, 2025 at 6:54 AM
A real problem is “Net Zero”. Seems like this framing allows a lot of dancing around - offsets, CCS., lots of other BS. Makes it look like the problem is far more elastic than it really is.

To play with your analogy: Like all your smoke is accumulating in the room you are confined to. You have a survival “budget” only in the sense that there’s a concentration of smoke that will kill you. But every puff is damaging and no, you can’t offset this, no matter how many pot plants you grow.

Does anyone know how to find tables of weather observations? Used to be under the heading “Observations”. Cannot find the tables anywhere on this site.

So seeking an assured supply while taxing it to discourage supply and use. No problem there at all!
November 22, 2025 at 11:01 PM
Hard to see any justification for that Guardian headline.

If there is some sort of phase-out strategic argument for the line the @australiainstitute.org.au is taking, I’d love to hear it.

We are not fighting cigarette smoking, just the smoke.

Goes right back to the 80’s idea that, “A good manager can manage anything”. A neoliberal idea. Tosh then, tosh now.

“Always expected to carry the can……”
Brilliant.
November 20, 2025 at 5:52 AM
This: “the Guardian are much more in line with Britain’s political consensus than they’d have you believe.”
November 12, 2025 at 12:04 AM
Yes. It is either a “child benefit” payment or its something else. If it’s a ”breeding dissuasion” payment it is not, fundamentally, a child benefit.
