Indy Bike bus, let’s go!!
(PS, I did bike past my kids school towing their bikes to get on this bus, but sometimes going a little out of your way to go together is WORTH it)

Was planning to meet a friend for a walk after dropping the first graders at school but my two year old woke up with a fever. Not to worry! I packed the stroller and we walked the cultural trail in the cool of the morning with a little one along.

I don’t have video of the times my first graders were riding in the thick of the throng, because I’m in focused, mama-bear mode in those moments. Gotta make sure we don’t go down with the guy who was very proficient riding backwards. . . until he hit a classic Indy pothole and got major road rash. 🧵

I actually would not recommend Indianapolis Bike Party for the average kid, but if your child is already a bike commuter and knows what it means to ride both predictably and responsively, it can be a fun experience to ride with a big group, at least before people get too inebriated. 🧵

Google has been told the 16 Tech Bridge is open by at least ten users but still won’t add it to the map or route users there. Granted, it may be a death trap for a cyclist guided into the abyss (see video) so I’ll give them a pass until we can get some landscaping or a railing at the edge. . .

I was today years old when @williamhazen.bsky.social taught me there’s a better map app! Transit has a friendly user interface and lots of inclusive options! You can specify your biking and walking speeds so e-bike users can see if bus or pedelec is faster. And they know where new infrastructure is!

Find mom friends who will let you pop their three-year-old into your cargo bike and roll with your first graders.

Let’s say you need to buy snacks, take them to the soccer game, head home to wrap a gift, then transport it to a birthday party ~three miles away, and pick up dinner, all with three daughters in tow. Do you drive? Today, I got to say NO!

Counting on your fingers is hard, going grocery shopping by cargo bike is not.

Could you pull over a van with six kids to enjoy an excavator at work on a quiet riverside trail? I didn’t think so.
