Kite-boarders & the howling west wind at Beach No.1
Presqu'ile Provincial Park. October, 2014

The perfect curve of Presqu’ile beach in December colours.
Scene of my first encounter with those daredevil Kite Boarders. The west wind can get fierce here funneling down Lake Ontario. No big swell but power to knock you down. The north end of the beach is reserved for them in the fall.

The Skyway bridge across the Bay of Quinte by the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. The 'island' of Prince Edward County on the other side. Two large bridges, one swing bridge across the canal and a ferry. Folks just call it 'The County'. Come visit us sometime!

Out near the west end of the Murray Canal. Completed in 1889. A great undertaking in the dying days of wooden ships and iron men. Before that one had to portage between the Bay of Quinte and Presqu'ile Bay. The Old Portage Road is still here, the oldest road in the country still in use.

Gentianopsis crinita (Fringed Gentian) down near the beaver pond in September 2009. The entire clearing was carpeted with these beautiful flowers that only open in the sun! Individual plants only live for one or two years and they've become relatively rare. Keep looking every fall for their return.

Barcovan Beach, in the shallow channel between Wellers Bay & Lake Ontario, near Brighton. Free of ice even in the coldest February. Not uncommon to see hundreds of swans and geese feeding here. Most of these giants are Mute Swans, but there are always a few pairs of Trumpeters in the mix.
