I used to observe prison staff doing sentence calculations with pen and calculator, totting up days spent on remand, days to be deducted for time spent whilst tagged on bail, days added for poor behaviour...amazing it doesn't happen more often really.

Definitely. I recently had a really long wait & it was only after about 4 hrs someone informed me 'oh, this is because test x needs to be done 4 hrs after test y.'
