Compared to the time of the election, fuel prices today are much lower: gasoline around 15 SEK/l vs 22–24 SEK/l in 2022, and diesel around 16 SEK/l vs 25–28 SEK/l. Fuel taxes have been reduced, and the biofuel blending requirement has dropped sharply – especially for diesel.

1/2 Sweden has been governed by a center-right government since the 2022 election, which promised to lower fuel prices. Shortly after the election, the EV subsidy of up to 70,000 SEK (~6,650 €) was abolished, a move that partly explains the lost momentum in the transition to electric vehicles

Another interesting aspect of Swedish statistics is the high share of BEV buses. In larger cities, new urban buses are almost exclusively electric.

What distinguishes Sweden from most other markets is the high share of PHEVs. Swedes tend to prefer large cars and want reassurance that they can drive to the mountains once a year without worrying about charging in a sparsely populated country.
