#Survivor 49 edgic thread! FFFIIIIINE, I'll put Soph #1, honestly truly if only so they can keep going back and forth to really hammer home that it's so 50/50 right now. I switch opinions every picosecond, but I have to submit *something*

I think this was a decently strong episode for Soph, though she continues to lack that strong /character/ that new era winners tend to have, even her advantage trio re-peddling hasn't been very unique to her with how there are rumours circulating that survivor 49 castaway Rizo might potentially have been spotted with an unknown object that some are speculating might have some semblance or tie to a "Hidden Immunity Idol", GASP! ...though maybe her KIP paying off next episode will fulfill some something or other I'll say I'm confident that no matter what, this is a Why Savannah x season. She's hands down The main character of the season, and I'd be shocked if she was cut 6th-4th or anything of the like, I feel like that's probably reserved for Sage honestly? At this point I'm pretty confident Sage is the dragon. To me for me. So that leaves Savannah very likely a finalist in my mind, and from there it's just a question of did she get to dominate, or is the mean girl talk why the jury doesn't vote her? I honestly am so torn here, and it's veeeery very tough to discern whether she's more explored as a character and a person because she wins, or whether it's all been coming to a head to show why nobody on the jury really wants to give it to her? Assuming Soph and Savannah make FTC, the rest of the jury seems to be shaping up as follows Rizo - Savannah hands down Sage - Very Likely Soph (Mean girls feud) Jawan - Likely Soph (Bag feud) Kristina - Likely Soph (this ep clearly showed she dislikes Savannah & likes Soph) Sophie - :idk Steven - :idk am i insane where did the shrug emoji go i feel crazy WHERE IS SHE Alex - Likely Soph (Kele strong) MC - Very Likely Soph (Advantage feud) Nate - Likely Savannah 5/9 have reasons to indicate they'd either vote for Soph or against Savannah. Sure, whoever's 3rd might scuff this up a little? and assuming Savannah makes it to FTC solo, sure, she probably wins, but Soph doesn't really have any sort of looming sword hanging over her head as of now? Even if there's an Omar/Jesse/etc etc/Shauhin "big player :OOOO " unexpected True Dragon slain at the end to justify an eleventh hour win, I'd still very much guess that's gonna be Sage, or Savannah herself, before Soph? Idk. I'm like truly actually torn as all hell on this but I think looking more towards the (what I hope is) logical side of things I think Soph is just... securer, and her issue of being less personalized isn't too problematic when realistically being so personalized is what's worrying me about Savannah. Savannah's news job is a lot more relevant than Soph's... backstabbing... puppy... thing... though, so, like. UGH. I'll talk myself back and forth for hours if I continue, locking this in. Rizo bumped to 3rd because at this point I wholeheartedly agree SRS is winning, so, like, fuck it, he's blowing up in the post-merge and while his premerge was very lackluster it /was/ stuffed to the gills with personalized content? his premiere, and https://i.imgur.com/FLiEPMO.gif Rizgod stick out in particular. Sage 4th because you'll have to pry Sage Hive from my cold dead hands. Jawan 5th because he does actually have a very prominent horror movie motif going on that strikes my eye as new era-y, but also what does he win off of lol? Steven 6th for being the only Hina Sophie 7th for being the only i e Kristina 8th for her star-studded breakout boot episode that is almost certainly coming tonight <3 ...and if she doesn't go tonight... oh this poor girl having to sit on this fuckass island for another week when she just knows it's over...

But, realistically, who else besides Soph, and maybe this is leftover early 40s bias, but I'd hedge my bets on the kookier messier one we know more about, than the standard strong player... it IS one of the two of them tho

I'll give her P for the swelling music, i GUESS? just to differentiate her from total utrobscurity, but, like, cmon. Jawan eeks out another light CP, him having a streak is kind of unsettling to my soul. One of those things where despite the 50/50 ratings distribution if he was gone right now it'd still be a pretty easy morm. Sophie I want to put as CP sooooo bad but technically her confessionals were pretty superficial narration. Her actions around camp were very decently explained, but I think the nail in the coffin is just how jarring the jump in her shown thought process from "Do I stick with the Rizo plan or turn on MC?" to tribal of Uli vs Hina and Needing to jump ship asap. M for being a crazy insane challenge beast but also being a shark flipping on Jawan and slightly MC. actually joining the MC CP train because despite honestly the minimal content I do think she explained herself pretty thoroughly. Why she played her idol, how she sees Jawan distrusting her, how and why she's extending that olive branch, and recognizing that something was up and Sophie was bsing her. Rizo is also so close to an N for being overconfident, spv both from last tribal's fallout and this one once Savannah arrived, but #IGUESS it's not really there, and I definitely don't think we're meant to root against him. On rewatch it is a LOT closer than I thought, Soph and Savannah are pretty neck and neck, but I'm choosing to be reactionary and bump Savannah up above her solely because Savannah has a lot more personal content. We know a lot about Soph's positioning and game sense but what do we know about /her/? Given this is the contenders tab, my talk should end here. It's one of those two. Nobody else has a shot in hell alol, but whateva Sage hangs on in third solely for being the other important player on the board, but this is two weeks in a row now where (despite being righteous,) she's been very highlighted as not getting her way. As much as Savannah is the BIG bad, I wouldn't be surprised if Sage is The Big Bad that the winner takes down in the endgame, and given that this merge is Sage vs Savannah... Jawan I'm keeping in 4th for consistent relevance, but there's not much 'gic to support it. I don't see how he really takes a jury vote, and even narratively he's taken a backseat now, so... ehh... doing better than Rizo getting his first CP at final 10 when it's practically unavoidable narratively though ijbol but these two at least Matter, so they're both roughly interchangeable one-in-a-million peripherals Alex... I dunno what to read on him. No check in with Sophi this episode makes me think that aside from the potential KIPpening, that his only notable relationships remaining are Steven and Kristina, which Ella Mafayo, that's not a winning crew. He's so UTR3. Steven silently lost his #1 and outside of this he really has very little. I doubt him getting a confessional acknowledging this will do anything to boost his chances. Technically the bottom's up alliance with Jawan and Sage, but he's third wheel to that narratively, and he has this unspoken triad with Alex and Kristina?? His way of talking is some of the worst of all time so I'm putting good energy into the world and praying upon his downfall. Sophie not in last <333 god these poor women. Kristina </3

If it weren't for him making a small show of it at tribal I'd be 1000% confident in UTR, but now I'm like... 98% confident :) Alex I'm fairly certain was UTR as well, yes he got the scene with Soph, but that was Soph's scene, and all he got was an ending confessional saying "idk... im kinda not gonna do that... #middleman..." and it's like well ok, did you have a single line elsewhere? you are not Sage's MOR1. Sophie morp would've been cute and funny but idt it's there, Soph cp is like... cusping, but I think it's just a little too flat? Drove the Steven vote, but that was a small blip at camp really, and the only real complex confessional was vaguely weighing Alex vs Uli, before deciding no actually he's with us :smug: , and like... ehhh? Maaaybe I'll switch if I'm in the minority, but as of now I don't particularly think so... cont. next slide Putting Soph at #1 because I think she's the /safest/ bet, though not necessarily the strongest? She's just very consistent, but I do think she's lacking in personal content, Sage I want SO bad to put at #1, and I truly nearly did, but I think what's keeping her at #2 for me is her pushing for Savannah, which didn't happen at all, vs Soph pushing for Steven, which at least was the right result For Her Side. I will say honestly, and maybe this is just the standom taking over, but with these back to back successes for Sage, I do honestly think that the Hina side's lack of relevance isn't even nearly as glaring anymore? It's still not... ideal, but the Uli trio really does have Savannah bulldozing the focus ( <3 !?), Soph being the underdog, and then... Rizo, who really doesn't have shit going for him save Savannah, & we don't even hear that /from/ him so much as we hear it about him. Meanwhile Sage and Jawan (both huge right now) have given Steven an actual meaning in the Bottom's Up alliance, Sage and Steven both have ties to MC who's our cp-lite advantage girl, and... well Alex Kristina and Sophie are still undeniably fodder lol but those three even have their own self-contained ... one episode, never concluded, anti-trio "storyline". So as much as the Hina side definitely does have excess townspeople, there really is the argument that in terms of relevance things are evening out for our actual Characters, especially when alliances aside, the real storyline /is/ Uli, whether it's the members of the four or not. Savannah stays in my top 3 because despite this very damning OTTN, sound effects and editing choices aplenty, she still has shticks, a very strong premerge, and Is the main character. NTOS doesn't exactly suggest that a mea culpa is in her future... but like what if this crazy woman actually recovers and goes the distance and gets the votes from the jur-- ok maybe that last part needs some convincing Jawan shock 4th? Has distinct traits, involved with the main characters, in the driving(ish) seat of the current developments, I've chastised him over this but all-in-all his Uli storyline has been decently consistent... could you imagine? MC 5th for being relevant, but flat, with a good merge episode Rizo 6th for same with a bad merge episode Steven 7th for worse with an okay merge episode. Alex 8th for worse with a pretty meh merge episode. Kristina & Sophie :)

She doesn't have a feud, or any real connections to keep an eye on outside of her direct NuHina alliance & particularly, again, Savannah. Alex has been Floundering lately and their connection has hardly been mentioned at all since Kele 1.0 ended. I also don't know what particular ~Thing~ Sophi might have? Besides being a lost puppy (scooped up by, of course, Savannah), but unless that puppy slits Rizo's throat, ties into her marooning confessional of bringing deception, and gets scooped up and re-adopted, I don't see the vision for that. Dare I also say, that her helpless lost puppy is double undermined by The Wolf in Sage. Sage could easily be a Carolynesque no vote getter (revolting result), but... the S girls are The Main Characters of the season. Sage/Shannon wrapped this early, sure, but so did Gabler/Elie, and so as long as Sage is able to avoid being ruthlessly demolished by the Uliron Fist ruling the season, she... isn't out of it. In my heart. Like I said earlier, I do think turning the Shannon boot from a total Hina win to solely hers ... is actually not very ideal? But there's no denying Sage is a major piece on the board right now, with personal and strategic content in spades despite having only gone to tribal once... keeping an eye on her. She's definitely decently far behind the top 2 right now, but there's an even bigger gap imo between these 3 and Nate, who's just, like... competent. For being offered the driver's seat by Savannah (here she is again), he sure was MOR for the first 4 episodes, and his only other CP happened on a journey rather than regarding the actual players he's dealing with. Still, he's not dead, and should the frontrunners all spontaneously combust, he's my pick to usurp something... but, idk. It just feels a little too hollow still, all I have for him is... vibes? Tsk tsk. WAKE UP! Rizo #5 I GUESS for relevance to the top 2 and for being quirky and hilarious, god, what a funny guy, hope he's on 50! but whoever said he's the fallen angel is actually the rightest person I've ever met in my life. MC... I feel like this episode was also too shallow for her, and once again she kind of got outmaneuvered by Uli members finding the advantage before her... still, she's I guess the Hina member with the most Uli relevance? So. What the hell, sure. Steven even when he finally goes to tribal is in MOR hell riding solely on social successes. Stop metaphoring, you're metaboring. Jawan honestly /could/ have a quirky kooky underdog win but also like. Even Sage whacked him for being too loyal. It just feels too clown-y. Alex this episode was NOT GOOD FOR in the slightest, what the fuck do you mean SOPHIE is your #1 on this tribe? And once again, he's just... reacting to being told things, and not showcasing a smidge of agency. Girl bye. I have zero idea where he stands in the slightest on anything despite being Kele 1.0. Embarrassing. Kristina 10 solely for being on the season, Sophie 11 solely for being off the season.

Jawan M is weak but ... idk, I think it's there, nothing was particularly strong but I felt like every time anyone looked at Jawan it came with a sprinkle of either tone, it just adds up. I don't see how Kristina could be UTR here after her medical scare that spanned both before and after a commercial break, and then going on to be the crux for Sophie's breakout and the only real unique development on Uli. Truly no chance casuals forget about medical rushing out to get her, if anything the M is the weakest part of this rating but lolsies Alex UTRM is kiiind of shitposty coz idgaf about him and it's funny, but honestly... dare I say the N was more towards Savannah herself? LIIIKE I'm just saying, Alex is maybe the most purée'd slopified amalgam of new era corporate retreatification, and when this is yet another person Savannah is deeming annoying as all hell (rightfully, but,) I just wonder hooowww hateful they're gonna make their winner, especially towards The exact type of person Jeff is trying to fuck post-season... maybe I'm red lobstering, but, idk. Her hating is actually starting to grow a lil on me lately, but it equally feels like it could be building to some downfall... maybe... idk Keeping Savannah #1 just barely, I feel like the downfall is starting to grow and loom but I want to see how the merge treats her before I decide for sure, because I think how she responds to her #1 in Shannon's boot, at the hands of the two she's been most vocally against in Sage & Jawan, will hopefully be very telling. I feel like Savannah not only has more Uniquely Savannah Things (her snark, her season-long feuds, her reporter shtick), but is also just generally at the very center of the entire season. /Everyone/ with any relevance is tied directly to Savannah. Nate, Rizo, Jawan, Sage, Sophi, the recently deceased, like I'm sorry Uli + Sophi is still far away the most important grouping, and despite the events of this swap (Sage v Shannon in particular reaching its conclusion) being good for the opposition, the fact it happened on such a smaller tribe and as such only really gave any spotlight to... Jawan and Sage, already important, equally feels ... underwhelming for the odds of a Hina Resistance? So... idk. Sheer relevance and personality keep Savannah at the top for me. I feel like this episode was great for Sophi though, she got another relative cooldown in spite of another episode of importance for her, winning the reward tied last episode's UTR2 into her story as a legitimate beat rather than throwaway anti-invis content, and her keeping the advantage secret /and/ plotting against Rizo feels like it ties very well into her time on Kele with wanting to hide the idol from Alex, and eventually getting him to flush it. I feel like Sophi is set up WELL right now, with no real looming danger atm, but the only reason I keep her lower is simply because she doesn't hold the relevance Savannah does.

Survivor Fiji! After like 400 years I finally finished this off, it's been so long I don't even recall where (or what) my last season post was lol. & Though that was more survivor-burnout than fiji-related, this season is just... alright. A few stars & moments, but faces some VERY noticeable issues

Positives include stand-out players, fun dynamics, the infamous car deal living up to its hype, the inclusion of a second Immunity Idol, and this season's attempts to remain compelling in spite of its negatives, which include Rocky, the fundamentally flawed format leading to skewed editing and boring, downer outcomes, resulting in a very shallow merge, and the re-inclusion of Exile Island with near identical rules and outcomes for the third season in a row. A spreadsheet showcasing the edgic charts made for this season's premerge, showing the green tribe, Moto, receiving an extreme lack of focus, doubly so in the swap phase of the game.

#Survivor 49 edgic thread! I'm gonna be a lil' controversial caitlyn here and say this episode was GOOD for Shannon, and that one of Savannah/Sophi/Shannon/Sage IS winning this season. LOCK IT IN!!!! Obviously the merge is when New Era contenders truly rise, so my eyes are peeled, but as of now...

Jason kind of lacked a throughline, and really the bulk of his complexity came at the start of the episode where he wanted to reach out to Jawan and avoid being completely slaughtered by Uli, which... went nowhere, as Jawan actively doomed him and he eventually drifted to just 'I'll do what Savannah mentioned smile ", Jawan got the rock draw scene and mentioned the pros and cons of siding with or against Jason, but never really got to act on it in any decisive way aside from said draw, which just didn't feel like enough. Jawan I just barely gave M given that everybody else did alol, but... God that N was strong. If I weren't actively scowering TC for justification, I probably would've gone with MORN. Rough. Alex's P was also SOOOO weak lmfao but I think it was intended to be there? But God he really is so dry... Shannon is pretty solidly OTTN <33 though it wasn't a total bury, and honestly? Despite her content being so ottm/n as of late, it has so truly given me more faith in her than her rather uneventful, weirdly vacant pre-swap, and I'm actually feeling so kooky crazy and am bumping her up into my top 4, buuut more of that in my contenders talk, wink!
