In every interaction, Warren was fully present. He thoughtfully prepared questions for conversations, striving to help Fellows not only excel in their work but also "compose a life"—a life rooted in meaningful contributions to their communities and their country.

We are heartbroken to share the news of the passing of our founding director, Warren Ilchman, on Thursday. From the very beginning, Warren worked closely with the Soros family and our board of directors, shaping nearly every aspect of the fellowship during his more than a decade of leadership.
