Farrell is just an incredibly bad resource manager. He has his guys and can't imagine anything outside of them, most were inherited from Schmidt and the ones lost are only due to injuries or retirement. Irish rugby will continue to suffer until he's gone.

The EU needs to realise that there is a new axis of evil; Russia, USA and Israel.

I'd agree with that

Personally I'd just like to be excited by Irish rugby again. Unfortunately I've felt nothing but apathy since Farrell's first year and now it's sheer contempt. As for 10 debate I feel like it's some giant psyop

The same way other countries manage it. If you can't afford them they move to another provincial side. If x player wants their debts CC tell them it's there for them at Connacht. Seems to work well for New Zealand

We've a much deeper pool of players now. But when a 3rd choice Leinster player is benching for Ireland over a player who's won multiple super rugby titles as a starter -there's deep deep issues
February 4, 2025 at 12:31 PM
The IRFU can absolutely impact player development elsewhere by actually funding the provinces equally though and allowing niqs to plug holes. For example Leinster had 7 niqs when they won the Heineken cup for the first time. Not all were 23 players but they plugged gaps that raised the bar.

I don't think it'll weaken the national team that much. It'll also prevent 3rd choice Leinster players getting selected over first choice players elsewhere and encourage player movement. In 09 the most players from Munster in a 23 was 11.
February 4, 2025 at 12:23 PM
Personally I'd say no single province can have more than 8 players in a 23. No fewer than 3. After that go nuts.
February 4, 2025 at 12:04 PM
Unfortunately the debate around players only ever gets spiteful or testy when one provincial side loses a player to any of the other 3. Ireland's selection policy is deeply flawed and lobsided. That's what has created this toxicity. We need a side that's truly representative of the island.
