And while we’re in these dark and profoundly stupid times, might I suggest Martha S. Jones’s work—highlighting how African Americans used the courts to argue for the idea of birthright citizenship long before the Civil War as a means to establish their status as free citizens.

I wrote The Dead Cat Tail Assassins as a novella that would be too long to be nominated for awards--and I was fine with that. Assumed it was too short for a novel award nom. But, surprise, here we are. Thanks to the readers who helped make this happen. And congrats to all the other nominees!
