4/4: Second, we aim to investigate how perceptions of risk influence the relationship that people have with said heritage.

3/4 With this panel we propose to explore what the impact of disasters on heritage along two lines: First, what happens when the forced displacement of communities disrupts the otherwise seemingly stable relationship between heritage and place.

2/4: What is originally intended as temporary emergency accommodation can come to feel like home if the ‘temporariness’ drags on long enough. Even when a new home is occupied there can remain a disconcerting sense of being out of place.

1/3 Abstract: The events that cause people to leave their homes come in many different shapes yet the subsequent displacement and its consequences have common elements. Displacement from the familiar sounds, smells and vistas, is disconcerting.
