Awesome, thanks for the update!

Awesome! My wife and I are currently rewatching DS9. It’s like reuniting with an old friend.

Ah, the missing piece. That should have occurred to me, but I’m glad you were here to guide me. Geometry downloads are working again, and I’ll work with our IT department to push the patch to all servers. THANK YOU!

We’re using JupyterLab, so I can push the patch to all my students’ servers easily, but first I need to figure out why I can’t load tigris after the patch on my personal device.

Detached tigris first with unload=TRUE, then used remotes::install_github() per your instructions on GitHub. Now I’ve got tigris 2.2.0 installed. But when I run library(tigris), I get error message: “tigris 2.1 cannot be unloaded: namespace tigris is imported by tidycensus so cannot be unloaded”

@kylewalker.bsky.social any reactions or timeframe from the Census Bureau on when this might be resolved? This issue landed right in the middle of a unit I teach every semester about tidycensus, and I’ve got 24 students who can’t do their lab assignment because geometry data won’t download.

Yeah, I knew that was coming. It’s a wide, wonderful world of bags and briefcases. Asking “which should I get?” is like walking into Madison Square Garden and asking “where should I sit?” If you have any experience with Bellroy, I’m all ears, because my index finger has been circling them for a week

I’m phasing out my use of Rmd, moving to Quarto (Qmd). You can host Qmd docs on GitHub quite easily, or publish them to Posit Connect (roughly the same platform as Shiny).

I’m in the market, been running a Filson briefcase for a few years, now looking at Bellroy. Got any recommendations?

This is great. I teach a very similar course, and a very similar lesson, using Rmd with tidyverse and tidycensus at Davidson. Do you share the final Rmd file with your students after class?
