Rather late to this, but pleased to say that I have had a short story published in the 'What Happens Next?' anthology from Nottingham Writers' Studio
@nwstudio.bsky.social . A short tale of an aging naturalist and his last trip. #nottingham
I'm curious. Why does the media always say there is a cold 'snap' but never uses the term for a period of hot weather? Who ever heard of a hot snap? I think it usually is called a warm spell or a heat wave.

Stir-up Sunday. Time for the annual xmas cake to begin it's life! Nigella recipe and as she says there's a bit of "Blue Peter" to wrap the cake in brown paper to protect while cooking.

A great book that I would recommend. Searing indictment of the state of parts of our big, especially northern, cities and a reminder of the strange times of covid.
152 copies of Ghost Signs sold last year and only ONE e-book. Total royalties for 2024/5, eighty three quid 😭 anyone wants to help feed my kids and pay the mortgage, both of which are killing me, you can get it from all the usual bookshops and online outlets.

Rather stunned to find that Blondie's Maria was released just over 25 years ago. Incredible No. 1 track. But surely it was only say ten years ago? #feelingold

The @theguardian.com on the state of #socialcare and plans for an industry-wide pay bargaining system and its funding.

Labour ducking sorting out the overall funding situation by pushing back to at least 2028 is politically “squalid” they say.

Seems we are in one of Blair's historical moments when the kaleidoscope has been shaken and the pieces are in flux. Not in a good way.

@gsoh31.bsky.social - have you seen this news about Notts TV? Nottingham Trent Uni (NTU) pulling out of local micro TV news channel in November. Another example of HEIs retrenching and there's then a knock on in local economy and civic society?

What *exactly* is a social care commission going to tell us that we don't know?

What is the magical cross-party solve that *multiple* com'ns & reviews, incl a Royal Com'n, have failed to find?

The issue is funding. Its a political choice. MAKE THE CHOICE you're elected to make & get on with it

If you want to read the government's new plan for change in full the pdf is here.

As far as I can see it does not mention #socialcare once. 😞

They [care workers] can earn more by going down to the local supermarket and getting two or three £ an hour more. Christina McAnea - Unison, on @BBCNewsnight

To fill some time I made Soul Cakes last week. Not too shabby a turn out for first attempt. I'm impressed they are still dry and firm a week later.
