I should say, it’s not all lawns, but it sure should be much more widely read in L.Arch., if only to impress on people the real implications of designing for maintenance and vice versa. Systems live, change, adapt. Maintenance is the antithesis of that. That’s not necessarily bad, but it is…tense.

Overgrown by Julian Raxworthy has -a lot- to say on this, from a landscape perspective at least. I’d be thrilled to know of any resources addressing interiors the same way, as places in process, not purely static.

This whole thread is a hell of a gem. I def want to hear it all! Lawns are all power posing, and I will never not hate how big they’ve gotten, and how very utilitarian and successful they could have been in reasonable practice were it not for *~the aristocracy~*

Frankly, that’s a boring take. Patriotism is useless if it’s uncritical. Even Captain America represents what a nation could be, not what it is. You are what you do, and Canada the State continues to do terrible things alongside the great contributions of Canadian people. Give Canada that credit? Na

Fair enough. Could maybe stand to apologize for the tone deafness of your current behaviour, mind

I might even agree that the framing can be divisive, if it stopped there, but indigenous people have been trying to legitimize Canada through treaty, through relationship building. We could be roommates, but Canada would rather squat in my home, telling me it’s fine, I can have the dog house? Wild

Is that really your moral measure of the legitimacy of a state? You want to be proud of your citizenship on the basis that they were stronger when they forcibly displaced, extirpated, and brutally killed whole peoples? Pretty lazy and heartless in the way you choose who to belong to, huh?

Love this. When I stopped wondering if my lived experience was at odds with claiming “indigenous identity,” and started just saying “I am indigenous,” it shifted the focus so strongly away from being about my feelings of myself to what do I do with this fact? What responsibilities do I have?
