Same here except was my entire childhood and teen years. It’s now in the national Spotlight during election cycles as emblematic of “purple“ districts. But over the past 10 years or so it’s not purple, but dark…

Thanks @roddy13.bsky.social I was reading and moving too fast and too early in the a m! Still, 40 million globally and “required reading” in most US high schools (although current trans may reverse that) it’s still significant reach

40 million copies in n 1961; the population of the US was about 182 million. So roughly 22% of Americans bought or had this book in their house hold. Think about that.

The Little Heart Party - perfect.

Apologoze ≠ recognize. This is the problem. Educating yourself and being aware of your white privilege and the trajectory of history and injustice is not the same as being made to feel that you are to blame. Instead, you should be empowered to address it and change it.

I always thought Boris and Natasha were satire, but now I realize it was premonition

Or less thirsty

This actually hits home for me. We went on vacation years ago and had a neighbor look after our bunny. It found its way into an irrigation power cord and, well, no more Jellybean :-(

Agree - The Dead Zone. Sheen was also great as a megalomaniac presidential candidate that Walken had to stop from launching Armageddon.

There’s not a straight correlation to the fact that a light aircraft was a home built kit and its safety. Highly likely this was pilot error, weather, etc. If there was a mechanical issue, it’s likely poor maintenance rather than poor design.
May 5, 2025 at 2:43 AM
Also, there is a long and safe history of Kit airplanes like the Vari Ez and Long EZ. there are other companies as well. John Denver‘s tragic crash was determined to be a mix of factors, including pilot error, not a poorly built or designed aircraft
May 5, 2025 at 2:42 AM
Folks - let’s not conflate general aviation light aircraft with commercial passenger jets that always use air traffic control. Many flights in aircraft like Cessna‘s and Pipers Don’t even have to talk to a control tower if they’re not controlled airspace.

The “US military birthday”? Which branch? Army? Navy? Air Force? Marines? Coast Guard? Space Force? All have different birthdays, now who’s the idiot?

This is really troubling. Although I’m not a voracious reader myself, I became one when I became a parent. And those years of evening reading were immensely, joyful, and satisfying.

It may be the TL/DR short attention span generational shift.

Sweet Honey in the Rock would be mortified to know that this reference was being used to urge patience for the good in Trump‘s policies to emerge.

The fundamental threat to 501(c)(3) orgs is hugely significant. But groups like the NRA, Heritage Foundation and others would be spared from similar threats. This is a political war not truly a tax structure policy.

I guess business casual – i.e. no tie – counts as a suit in this White House.

The myth that owning stocks that increase in value means you “made“ money continues to pervade the American story. Neither of them spent an eight or 10 or 14 hour day serving food, building something, taking care of sick people, teaching kids, I could go on and on.

And a weird / ironic / tragic twist of history that Appomattox is named after the Appomattoc Native American tribe…

Let me get this straight, he wasn’t being Diplomatic, the Security situation was fragile, and he couldn’t get Service? That’s Rubio’s DSS?
April 8, 2025 at 10:32 PM
That’s a despicable post by a US official (though she’s a public affairs staffer not the substantive person). And particularly telling that it’s focused on the topic of Palestine.

And as the managing director of an organization that works hard to protect the rights of civil society organizations - particularly humanitarian, peacebuilding of human rights defenders - we have to take an approach where an injustice or threat to one is truly an injustice and threat to us all.
