We have a federal system full of checks & balances that decentralize power to prevent tyranny.
But it’s moderated by 2 parties that fill all the bodies of govt, vertically & horizontally, thereby rendering the checks impotent.

It doesn’t foster honest deliberation and negotiation because the stakes are so high and are teetering on a 1% shift in either direction.
Defections make all the difference and so cannot be tolerated. Orthodoxy must not be questioned.

Focus Group spinoff!
I know focus groups exist to measure public opinion (tho even they’re imperfect bc of group dynamics).
But we need a show where you invite them to a session where their views are challenged by facts!
Can you imagine how popular that would be?!?

Democratic states need to disrupt politics unilaterally. They need to lead the way on this. We need a 4 party system. A 4 party system to save democracy. We need experimentation on how to implement it tho. We need laboratories of democracy. Some states should use Hare RCV, some should use Condorcet.

It might be the right way to forecast the immediate outcome, but any doomerism worth its salt has a longer horizon.
A repeat of the attempt to overturn further normalizes a lack of commitment to the democratic process that is the bedrock of our republican system of govt.

@terikanefield.bsky.social can you give a good faith explanation or argument for why official acts would be inadmissible as evidence in criminal proceedings for unofficial acts? Granted that official acts have presumed immunity, why does that make them inadmissible as evidence?

My concern is the election, not criticism/protest of Biden/Israel.
-Biden’s complicity in mass innocent Palestinian death is abhorrent.
-To the extent Trump‘s policy wrt Israel/Palestine will be different, it will be more favorable to Israel & care less about Palestinians.
