We were at church today. The whole family. Mass was coming to an end. The parish priest asked everyone to remain standing with breaking voice and announced the news. Some women started to weep. We all prayed with a brief but crisp Easter prayer and asked for his eternal peace. We left in silence.

Despite all the pretty diplomatic talk and trying to appease Trump (yes, the West is now appeasing Trump) everyone knows now that Europe is on their own and Ukraine depends on us Canada, Turkey and perhaps South Korea. US is no longer an ally. It’s perhaps an unwilling partner and even adversary.
