I think if you find a trustworthy/like-minded source of info, such a reviewer can perhaps enrich your book-reading experience. But there will also be times when following in other people's footsteps sanitises (for better or worse) what would otherwise be raw experience.

Come to think of it, there was a rather low-budget the Witcher TV show ages ago (in Polish TV) which my better half and I used to watch weekly along with the very satirical review of it airing immediately after, in the radio. Soon enough we were looking forward to the reviews more than the TV show.

I reckon this sorta feels like sharing joy with a bunch of like-minded people, even if the share vector is only one-sided?
