While the Ottomans conquered Constantinople on the 29th of May 1453, the Byzantine Despotate of the Morea (capital Mystras) and the Empire of Trebizond survived a few years more, falling in 1460 and 1461.

The Aqueduct of Valens stretched across the valley east of the Church of the Holy Apostles between the Fourth and Third Hills of Constantinople. It dates to the late 4th century and was also used in the Ottoman era, when it was known as Bozdoğan Kemeri (“Grey Falcon Aqueduct”).
