Slowly rolling out memories from our April Yokohama and Kichijoji trip. Unplanned morning walks to a local temple, shrine or park brought into focus the beauty right in front of us and around the next corner. So fun just getting lost

On the same flight to Haneda with Jay Thomas 先生!!
He transferred to Okinawa and will be playing throughout Japan all of April. With his Selmer bungeed to the top of his suitcase and flugel+trumpet in a shoulder bag — talk about stamina!!

As a former (brief) UW music student who changed majors I'm hungry to know the best current jazz books for possible returning adult music majors. Been digging Paul Berliner's Thinking in Jazz and Jerry Coker's books. Would love related suggestions

Salsa Saturdays 7--9 at SeaMonster Lounge are always burning! Stellar band tonight with Carlos Cascante on the mic, Julio Juaregui on keys, and Dean Schmidt's one of my favorite bassists.
Stealing and sharing from a surgical log-in-log-out FB visit :D

Our neighbor works at NOAA tracking fish diseases to sustain their lives and ours, ensuring a safe and sustainable food source. The weather and maritime tracking implications are even more immediately impactful.

LogBoom in Kenmore, one of my favorite sunset destinations.

Typically have “YuYu no Nihongo” Japanese podcast or jazz in the earbuds.

Staying just as informed on world events via BlueSky as I would on Meta, minus a lot of hyperbolic hot takes. Small business friends already feeling the tariffs

I love rewatching this moment of Norm’s final emotional gratitude (1:06:20) after telling his favorite Letterman joke.

There’s a treasure trove of Norm on YouTube that is perfect to hear these days, poignant, sometimes NSFW, but never mean-spirited #comedy #humor #norm

Local actions and mental health matter most.
I understand friends sharing daily outrage on FB where we've built a bigger audience, but Zuck handed all his FB keys to Maga, making the algorithm highly suspect, how the data is suppressed (e.g. shadow bans) and the way our data will be used.
Morning! In the name of democracy, here's a list of things to do today:

1. Call your senators & reps w/ real stories about how the admin's actions impact you & people you care about

2. Do something that makes you smile

Take action.
Find joy.

Protect democracy.

Been building distance using elements of IWT (Interval Walking Training, 3min fast walk + 3min slow walk) & monitoring heart. Basically it’s walking for impatient people :D

Found to show positive impacts on cardio, blood sugar & pressure. Pushed my max last Sunday

What stands out the most is that DeepSeek says they used a fraction of the money and compute that US tech companies did - all while hobbled by chip import restrictions on China. If true, they just made the US tech giants look like fools

When I log back into FB next week it'll be "log in, log out" like checking email. And maybe try to get jailed again. It's hard to fully ditch because of the decade of building local community with musicians and others, but hoping more make it over here.
