Teammate ran an izzet deck with plenty of control and flying attackers that helped clear the way for all the allies I created.

I played against Tide at MagicCon Atlanta - having to sit through a 10+ minute turn only for them to fizzle out and scoop felt bad, like you didn't earn a win.

They also make a good point about other decks trying to get faster in order to beat Tide.
With only some decks having access to counters, the only other option was to make things faster. While I like aggro decks too, they shouldn't feel like what you _have_ to do to compete.
