Memorial Service He’s bought medals from eBay. Bought the uniform from Army Surplus. War stories stolen from Hollywood and Pinewood. Burton, Savalas, Caine. At the Cenotaph, He swaps salutes with the wounded, scarred, nervous, whose eyes he can’t hold, but tales he’ll recycle. His legs bolt a rapid one-two retreat at confrontation. In the safety of his home he reloads, more medals— delivered in 4 working days.

A Snake Sheds Its Skin In Eden I watch the saliva-slick river of devilbright pomegranate juice snake down the canyons of her face. Forbidden fruit. Her flesh, plucked from the harp of my rib— naked, as my maker is brutal. Soft. Cold. Prickled. Unforbidden fruit, mine to savour. Are you staring too? Are you staring too? Are you? I can’t hear you over lust in your breath and gritchurn of teeth. Admire the pinnacle of creation. I hold the power of the divine, your new God. A snake writhes. Ecdysis in motion. Beasts, ever-changing— succumb to temptation, gorge yourself.

Saturday Exile c.2002 I am a phantasm. Haunting the doorstep, binliner of my life cushioning head. Ben Sherman shirts aren’t made for alfresco sleeping— cotton is cold at 2am. A Study In Crimson Dracula is the victim of the story. His hollow heart craves to be crimson-rich and hammering like wings of the noctules nesting in the castle’s tower bell. Love cures all, blooms body poppy-red, and stokes passion-fire. Blood carries soul-legacy. Eternal.

My name rings around the streets, I switch studs for trainers— leave the ball behind for the lads. Measure. Map against red curve. Swab. Twist. 4 clicks. Inject. Daily. Twice Daily if forgotten. Swab again. Sharps in the yellow bin. Relentless for years. I pass the curve. Everyone is happy especially me. The blooms on my legs, take time to wilt, stems look like fissures— I wait for quadricep-vases to crack. But they don’t.
